"Eco-District: Principles of Inclusive Integrated Planning"
The principles underpinning Eco-District planning revolve around a people-centric approach, integrated planning, universal access, energy efficiency, and presence of ample green spaces.
Eco-District is a result of a planning approach that is based on the engagement of diverse groups of population, including the elderly, people with disability while ensuring equal gender representation to create a liveable neighborhood with accessible services, and efficient commuting. The guiding principle of this planning approach includes the following elements:
- Universal access: All roads and public facilities are designed to be inclusive and accessible for individuals with disabilities, including wheelchair users and those with baby strollers.
- Inclusive Housing: Some residential units are designed to accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities, ensuring their comfort and autonomy within their living spaces.
- Safety: Adequate measures such as speed breakers, road signs, and pedestrian crossings, are in place to ensure the safety of children, individuals with disability, and all pedestrians.
- Green Space: Parks, public areas, and green spaces are thoughtfully incorporated within the neighborhood to provide recreational spaces for residents, with special consideration given to children and the elderly.
The green elements of Eco-District require the use of environmentally friendly recyclable building materials that are locally sourced and produced with heat and water efficient technology , and that meets hygiene and energy efficiency requirements while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Housing units
The proposed housing units enable social mixity targeting diverse income people:
- 15% of social green housing
- 55% of affordable green housing
- 30% of market-rate green housing
The residential units comprise approximately 12 different apartment types, ranging from 35m² to 80m². Notably, 10% of the housing types cater specifically to the needs of individuals with disabilities.
