The Ulaanbaatar Green Affordable Housing and Resilient Urban Renewal Project (AHURP) aims to fill the gaps in climate-responsive urban development and provide affordable green housing. Its main goal is to transform the vulnerable and polluted peri-urban areas of Ulaanbaatar (known as the ger areas) into low-carbon, climate-resilient, and affordable Eco-Districts. Funding for the Ulaanbaatar Green Affordable Housing and Resilient Urban Renewal Project (AHURP) comes from the Asian Development Bank, Green Climate Fund, and High Technology Fund. The Government of Mongolia, in collaboration with the UB City Municipality, is responsible for implementing the project with joint funding.
The project will be carried out in five stages over six years. The first phase focuses on constructing the eco-districts in Bayankhoshuu and Sharhad sub-centers. The opening ceremony, which took place on July 4, 2023, marked the start of construction for the 110-households eco-district in the B-15 field of the 9th khoroo of Bayankhoshuu.
The event was attended by important figures such as the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, the capital's Governor, D. Sumyabazar, G. Gankhuu (Head of Capital Housing Policy Department), M. Govisaikhan (Executive Director of NOSK), B. Bold-Erdene (Project Coordinator), representatives from the City Council and relevant institutions of the capital and the Governor of Songinokhairkhan district, the Governor of the 8th khoroo, the Governor of the 9th khoroo, representatives from the private sector and partner organizations, as well as members of the media.
During the opening ceremony, Governor D. Sumyabazar highlighted the project's importance and urged the contractor companies and the project implementation team to complete their work on time and with high quality. He also encouraged their support for the ongoing construction and the active participation of citizens.
At the opening event, representatives from the companies involved in the construction of the 110-households eco-district in Bayankhoshuu sub-center presented their plan and promised to finish the construction work on time and with good quality.
